I’ll start my blog at Fraser Island and occasionally I’ll post some historic pictures to capture a bit more of our journey. At Fraser Island, we hired a 4WD drive and headed for Lake MacKenzie. Fraser Island is a large sand Island and takes about 2-3 days to travel around the whole island. We had 1/2 a day and so limited our visits to Central Station, Eurong including a drive along the beach, Lake Mackenzie (pictured below) and the Sandy Blow hole (pictured right). A closer picture of the blow hole is available here. At Lake Mackenzie we were keen to do some exploring but were quickly halted by thick scrub and a stream. And, since neither of us have ever been thawted by a little water before, we upped our trousers and started to make our way accross a 10m peice of water. |

Initially the waters looked rather shallow until we found ourselves in the middle of the stream in water deep enough to reach our trousers which were now hitched as high up our thighs as we could go. We figured it was as worst as it was going to get and we were almost on the other side so continued across the waters. I ended up walking back to the car with trousers wet up to my crutch. The rather amusing part was when we returned to the stream for our return passage we realised the stream was simply a small nook and there was a perfectly dry footpath just metres from where we crossed the water originally. Oh well, I took comfort in the 4WD with the heater on high for the most part of the day. |

This is a photo of a lake on Fraser Island. I was located at the top of a hill and was viewing the lake from a scenic look out. From where we were standing you could not make out what was on the sand near the edge of the water. The zoom feature of the camera soon cleared up my doubts about the identity of the dots on the sand. My zoomed in picture is featured here. |
