We met with James and Lisa and wined and dined the evenings away, sailed around to Whitehaven Beach and lit the barbeque for lunch. After saying good bye to James and Lisa we opted to stay at the marina for a further two nights. The comforts of tv reception and given a formula 1 was being broadcast was a good enough reason to stay parked at the marina for an extra day. Also, the weather was lousy outside so possibly the weather contributed to our decision to stay in. When we did depart the day was looking okay and so David offered to go into the galley to make us a cup of coffee. I was at the helm and as David returned to the cockpit with the two coffees, the waters started to get very unpredictable. We were making our way around to Cid Harbour from Hamilton Island marina and from out of know where comes these two metre seas, we are shoved side-on to them and with no chance of avoiding the inevitable, our boat is thrusted to our starboard side and our gunnels on that side our doused in water. The cat is scampering for safety with Dave and I hoping she doesn’t end up in the drink. The coffees are splahing and sliding across the table in our cockpit. Dave grabs the helm and gathers some control. The boat rights itself and thankfully, we were due to turn into an inlet and make our way to Cid Harbour in more predictable waters. |
