The lack of water put added pressure on us to move on even though the wind was still blowing 20-25knots and seas to 2.2metres. As we started out, it was rough and we had at least 6 hours of these conditions ahead of us. Later in the day as we changed course and headed with the seas behind us there was a moderate improvement to the comfort level. We were both tired and then we were challenged with the d-bolt on our furling head sail unfastening itself and leaving us with a full head sail flapping crazily. Dave made some attempts to grab at the loose corner of the sail but the violent flapping nature of the sail made it impossible. It was a rare time when words flew between us and acts of stubborness crept in from both our perspectives but the end result was we continued on with the sail flapping partially furled. As embarrassing as it was it was the safest option for us and when we anchored we were able to finally secure the loose clew and furled our sail. Tuckered out after the days events we attempted to sleep but the boat rolled and rolled all night. So we made an early exit for Mackay the next day. |
